I started on Django product work and got pulled into the infrastructure side. These days my work runs from designing an API to standing up the EKS cluster and GitOps pipeline it ships through.

Currently at OneSource Marketing, working remotely from Kathmandu with a team in Sydney. Open to backend engineering roles and interesting systems work.

Software Engineer, OneSource Marketing

  • Optimized slow PostgreSQL queries with indexes and raw SQL where the ORM got in the way. Cut N+1 queries by more than half and brought p95 latency on the heaviest endpoints from over 1s to around 600ms.
  • Build and maintain GraphQL APIs with Strawberry on top of Django services, with filtering, pagination and aggregation for analytics and reporting dashboards.
  • Provision AWS infrastructure as code with Terraform (ECS, RDS, S3, IAM), with least-privilege IAM policies and CloudWatch alarms that cut detection of production issues from hours to minutes.

  • Built REST APIs with Django REST Framework for geospatial mapping platforms used daily by NGO and government teams across multiple districts in Nepal.
  • Moved spatial datasets and aggregations that were too slow for PostgreSQL onto MongoDB and Elasticsearch, bringing dashboard queries from 10+ seconds to under a second. GeoDjango and PostGIS on the relational side.
  • Cut response times on the slowest endpoints by over 60% with Redis caching and ORM query rewrites.

Renter

The platform drawn on sheet 1. A rental-listing app I used as a complete infrastructure build-out on AWS EKS: modular Terraform, pull-based GitOps with an ArgoCD app-of-apps, keyless CI/CD from GitHub to ECR over OIDC, a Helm chart with sync-wave migrations, autoscaling and External Secrets, and Prometheus, Grafana and Loki for observability.

HOTOSM Drone Tasking Manager

Open-source contributions to the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team's drone mapping tool. I automated DEM file retrieval and merging with a Scrapy bot that uploads to S3, added a regulator email approval step that reduced failed project creation, and added state tracking so images aren't reprocessed.
